Question Total# USA GT2's

I know there is at least one knowledgeable person that knows the total GT2 sales in the USA from 2002 to the present. The question was raised on SCCA forums and it was my understanding that it was a very low number ie app. 20 per year.

TIA

Peter

Mike,

Sonnen had a silver 2005 GT2 which they sold..so there appears to have been at least 1 MY05.

Mike's GT2 totals are the numbers I have found to be correct when someone presented the Porsche press releases for the last few years on this site.

My 05 GT2 hit port today and will be at my dealer in about a week to ten days for delivery so I am told. I ordered the fourth one but have not heard or read anywhere that Porsche has stated only five will be delivered to NA. I wonder what the source of that information is?

When I ordered mine the first three were all Carerra GT silver, mine is Artic silver and I don't know what the fifth is?

Enjoy that car! Just get used to massive oversteer at the limit, once you accept that (instead of fighting it) you will be own your way to really enjoying the car. It difinitely has a hit in terms of acceleration.

The GT2 is not eligible for a SCCA stock class due to the low number sold in USA. Anyway it's not competitive in stock form due to the long 2nd gear, the lack of torque below 3500rpm and the extra weight compared to a GT3.

So, the GT3 is faster around the track than a GT2?

I think at that point, the main difference is the driver.

This said, the GT2, according to Porsche, is only 88 pounds more than a GT3 but has a lot more torque and power. So I think the answer is pretty obvious.

Sorry. I forgot to mention SCCA Solo 2 Stock class (Autocross). Autocrosses are conducted on very tight turns, low and mid rpm in 2nd gear, one lap every 10-15 minutes or so.

At the track is a different game, the GT2 should be a lot faster given a good driver.

NJ-GT,

I know it is not eligible for SS at this time, but James Gunn- Wilkenson (sp) raised the issue that if the C6 ZO6 is added to SS then the GT2 should also be moved from ASP to SS. I wasn't sure I agreed until I had the total # of GT2's sold in the US. I plan on going to Topeka with my GT3 to give the Vette's a run for their money. I am not very good, BUT my co-driver, Ian Stewart, is very good. 2nd in SM2 in 04 and 3rd in BS in 03. We will see in Atlanta how we compare to the Vettes, we may still be on Hoosier A3SO4's if the new 05's are not in. I am hoping Strelnicks shows up at the Tour for comparison.

you'd be surprised, the GT3 has just the right amount of power for the chassis/tire combo, while the GT2 has the ability to overpower it in heartbeat. I've tracked alongside GT2's many times, they can't get thru the corners any quicker, infact often they're driven a tad slower in the corners because they are so easily able to terminally break traction with their massive power. They have a distinct advantage on the long straight ways, but it takes a track like Big Willow to allow a GT2 to use that advantage over a 3. At BW, SoW etc they are pretty evenly matched cars.
