RS flywheel and clutch installed
Picked up my GT3 late yesterday afternoon from the dealership after getting the RMS fixed and the RS flywheel and clutch installed. So far I am very pleased with the new setup. The additional flywheel noise is a non issue to me. Its a subtle mechanical rattle and is within character of the car. The clutch action feels smoother and easier to control. No problems with stalling whatsoever. The engine now responds instantly to throttle inputs. I always thought the standard setup was pretty responsive, but taking 20lbs off the rotating mass makes a huge difference. I examined the original parts they took out. I can not believe just how much of a boat anchor the original flywheel is. The LWFW is all machined out on the backside where the dual mass is just a solid chunk of metal. All the original parts were in pretty good shape except the bearing. It was looking a bit off and could have been the source of my trannie noise.
In summary this is a great mod and I could not be happier. I feel there is no real downside to doing this mod and I don't understand why the LWFW is not standard on these cars.

Chris A: I've seen the parts anywhere from $1350-$1800. Its worth searching around a bit for the best price. I could have paid less for the parts than I did through my dealership. But b/c they were working with me on the install labor (see responce to Frayed) I felt inclined to work with them on the parts.
SPR: I don't think the factory offers many performance upgrades for the Carrera... other than suspension and the engine kit. I know there are some aftermarket companies that could help you out.
Frayed: The dealership did not charge for the install since it was already apart for the RMS. They have to pull the flywheel and clutch to do the job so its nothing to reassemble with the new parts. The only reasons I did the upgrade was a) They were already going in for the RMS b) the labor was "incuded" with the other work under warranty.

You are going to LUV the RS install. I have installed many of these in to the GT3s and WHAT a diiference. It totally transforms the mid-range RPMS into SCREAMING revs. Everyone that I have installed could not be happier. Congrats on the decision as you are going to be one happy guy.....

Hey Britt. Its nothing like the twin paddle wheels of fury your TT is sporting, but it works for me. Hopefully we can get the gang together again sometime this fall. Its been too long.
