Thinking about selling my 1992 MB 500E
Dear fellow Rennlisters,
Some of you may recall my post last December on the 1992 Mercedes 500E that I purchased from fellow Rennlister, Afshin (Air Cooled Carrera). I am thinking about selling it, because it gets very little use and I just purchased a 2003 Audi A8L that is better suited to our salty winters in Kentucky.
I bought this 2004 Huntington Beach "Best in Class" concours winner with 66,000 miles, and it now has 68,297 miles. It is a former Southern California car that has never seen snow or salted roads. Afshin took excellent care of the car, and it's in the same outstanding condition as when I purchased it, having undergone an oil change and replacement of a broken antenna motor.
There is a very detailed summary in the archives under "Porsche-engineered 1992 Mercedes 500E - Review and pics (OT?)" - I didn't know how to link it (can anybody help?).
I am not desperate to sell the car, but would consider it if I can find a good home. Afshin asked for right of first refusal on any sale, but I've been unable to reach him by s-mail, e-mail, or telephone. Afshin, are you out there?
Asking $25,900. The car will come with the Concours trophies and poster used at its presentation in the Las Vegas Popular Mechanics event honoring Mercedes Benz. Please e-mail me at adhir@qx.net

I have seen and driven this car and can verify it is a very nice car. I would guess there are very few that are in better condition. I saw a different car in your spot at your office and was wondering if you got something new. You can fill me in next I see you.

Thank you, Dave, for posting the link! Greg, the Audi is a nice, roomy, cushy car - something I can enjoy year-round, but that's ultimately disposable.
The 500E really belongs with an enthusiast in a better climate. It's not right for it to sit all winter.

To this day I regret not buying a 500E that was for sale here. Great car. I'll check with a select group of people that I think might be deserving of such a fine ride and see if they have any interest. It is important that such a car goes to a proper home.

I heard from Afshin by e-mail tonight, and he has waived his right of first refusal. Therefore, the car is available. I'd really like it to see it go to a good home, because it's a cool piece of automotive history. I don't think we'll ever see another car jointly built by Porsche and Mercedes.

Anir,
Hate to see you sell it but I understand where you are coming from. I'll put the word out. I noticed in the last post in the old thread that Alan expressed interest in a good 500E. Your's most certainly qualifies! Good luck with the sale & find it a good home Nice ones are getting more & more rare!

Hi Jay,
Thank you for putting the word out. I'd honestly keep the car if I still lived in Texas.
John,
Good to hear from you. I agree that the Audi is the perfect sedan for colder climates. Why did you get rid of the E500 4matic?
Have you always wanted a Cisitalia 202 and a Cunningham C-3, as well? If so, we may be long lost twins.

Anir,
I would trade up to your car but, like my '64 GTO, it's become a member of the family. The couple of times I have mentioned selling that, my 8 year old has gone ballistic. It's his favorite & he already has plans for it to live in his garage someday

Thanks, Jay. Is moving from a '93 to a '92 "trading up"?
I grew up in Big D, then Austin (UT 1985-90), then Houston, before moving to Atlanta, Birmingham, and now Lexington. I remember seeing George Strait perform on the little, new band stage at the Texas State Fair in about 1980, before he made it big. Good memories. My heart will always be in Texas.
