Update: Engine replaced after failure
Here's the update to the thread on my 2002 C2 Cab's engine replacement after it had started making "bicycle bell" ringing noises upon startup one day. The car had 10,000 miles on it.
It turns out that the crankshaft pulley guide pin had broken off, and the noise was the pully moving erraticaly. PNA had authorized a replacement rebuilt engine under warranty, but ultimately approved a brand new replacement engine which had to be flown over from Germany.
Anyone heard of this type of failure before?

Yesterday evening it started making a noise almost like it was a diesel accompanied by a screeching. Taken to OPD this morning, on arrival at workshop, the noise increased and engine warning light came on.
Mechanics seemed to know straight away what had happened. They said the bolt holding the pulley which drives water pump etc onto crankshaft had come loose. This had allowed the pulley to move around and the pin which locates the pulley onto the crankshaft to break.
Dealer says the will get authorization for a new engine from Porsche GB on Monday.
I will let you know what happens.

ouch, that sucks.. 2,200 miles on a 997 and already a new engine needed.. sounds like the 997 engine has a new batch of problems besides the countless ones the 996 has...
more reinforcement into my posture to never buy another porsche, or atleast even consider it until they get their act together...
