From my reviews, the engineering for the '02 was to get significant performance gains at 3000-5000 rpm where you can really feel it. The air box mod only helps above 5500 rpm- you won't feel that in every day driving. We should get someone with an'02 to do this mod before / after !If I had an '02 , you bet it would be the first thing I would try after break in. For $200 bucks after spending $85K , it would be worth it for me. Chevy Corvette guys all get dyno proved 15-20 hp on an already "optimized" 350 and 405 hp engines with similar mods. Dodge added " smooth tubes and K&N " on their ACR model ( after aftermarket had done it for years ) and published an extra 10 hp for that factory mod. Chevy took off their MAF screen on '02 Z06 , finally admitting it was mainly there for catching stuff, not smoothing flow.

Sure, and using the % of total pre-hp that the extra 10 hp represented on that ACR (not to mention the MUCH flatter torque curve on V8 and V10s), apply that % to the 300 hp Carerra and tell me what you get in terms of hp increase (btw, torque - NOT hp - is what causes the performance increases you are testing for). Ditto on the Z06. Further, how much of a decrease in times do you suppose that infintismal 10 hp as a % of total hp represented? NO WAY, NO HOW was it .20 - much less the .4 you posted.

Hey people, do what I did 3 months ago, before the Airetek , RM , and Fabspeed mods hit the market : I used a 50 cent high temp plastic cap plug ,Niagra ( Erie , Pennsylvania) # 273-1P , that has a 1 15/16 " flange lip and inside diameter 1 3/4" and 7/16" deep that is a PERFECT fit into the air muffler box " neck", so you just put the secondary air bridge back on - completely eliminates the muffler- elegant solution- no " drain plug" / sawing for 13 bucks. Great sound. Still uses the corrigated OEM bridge and the eddy flow of the secondary bridge still exists , though.
I would still do the Fabspeed , after comparing the two methods.

MKW, your solution arrived today. It sure is even easier than mine! The only thing I might say is that both you and Joe leave in the top half of the muffler box which a) restricts air flow, and b) is a very rough surface owing to the walls which don't encourage the smooth flow like a) no top half or b) the smooth bottom half muffler case provided in the OEM box. All in all though, I'd say you accomplished all Joe did for free - they sent mine via a free sample with no shipping, etc.

Wow, dredging up nostalgia ! Last week, I retested my run from 1/13/02 post. "Flying" 60-100 mph in same place/ conditions ( but full tank of gas ) was 6.57 seconds. So the Fabspeed improvement has held after 6 months and 3000 miles w/o evidence of negative ECM relearning.

Ben in LJ,

I was curious to see your airbox setup, but the link to funcars doesn't work anymore. Can you update the link for me please?

Thanks

But I can't seem to get to this URL. Even wgen I log on to funcarsonline I can't find the thread in any search. Any help appreciated.

I gotta vouche for everything the man from Fabspeed (above) says. Gaaaagious music out the rear end of my porsches tuchas and I get a great kick in the pants every time I blip into 3rd at about 5000 rpm.

sorry, but i don't have any of those pictures saved. that said, i am supercharging the car in a couple weeks and won't therefore need that airbox anymore. is $100 with B&M filter fair?

yeah, but mine sounds better - for two reasons: i took out the entire airbox muffler and cut holes in the bottom section of the airbox.
