Adding a second oil cooler to an 89?
I am looking for recomendations for adding a second oil cooler to my 89. What type of cooler has anyone used and what mounting position and method was used?
I saw a cool set up in an 86 track car with the fog lights removed and dual oil coolers mounted in the receses but this is for a street / DE car.

KISS cooler which Paragon offers which works in conjunction with the factory cooler or you can run a second factory cooler, invert it, and hose it in with the stock cooler. There is room to mount it on the other side of the radiator support bracket, the holes are already there and it can get airflow without any modifications.

I use a Mocal (approx 22" wide x 6" high) across the front of the radiator, at the bottom, tilted forward about 15 degrees.
The stock lower spoiler will fit right over it.
It works amazingly well, and allows you to dump the stock oil cooler altogether.
I do not like the KISS setup... for many reasons. I'll just leave it at that.

Happen to have a picture? Aren't fittings for the stock cooler very hard to find?

I installed the KISS cooler a few years ago and it couldn't have been easier. One fitting goes to the oil filter housing and the other connects to the line coming off the stock cooler. Mounting the unit is fairly straight forward and just required mounting the horns in a different position. Just make sure you secure the lines properly otherwise they can sag and drag on the ground for those of you without belly pans.

Not bad. I've not seen a dual stock setup before. Looks like a very clean install (unike the KISS setup)
The only change I'd recommend is changing the bottom aluminum 90 degree connector with a steel one. The aluminum ones are too fragile for that location (the lower one the top one is fine).
A trip off the track or running over something could break or crack it.

Thanks for the tip Tony, I'll see if I can locate one. The holes are already there in the bracket, you just need the bolt/washer/nut combo, invert the cooler, redo the air inlet, and it goes right in. The used coolers are very easy to find too.

Thanks for the info, what kind of temperature drops did you get out of the second cooler and did you do your own oil lines or have someone do them for you?

I think it was something average like 30-35°° lower than the first cooler on the line going back to the engine. We got the setup from a friend who wrecked his car but had to make up one new hose; we sourced the hose and items through Earls, but as Tony pointed out, I forgot about Summit.
this car sacrificed many things for ebay but also for JAB Racing...I hope it enjoyed recycling
