Default X-Post: Cayman S - European Delivery Disaster (not mine)

Hi,

In case you do not read the other forum, this story is incredibley sad.

http://www.caymanclub.net/topic.asp?...le=Cayman+Chat

I was thinking of a Cayman (base or S) European delivery in Fall 2007 for our 25th anniversary. This totally kills the deal. In fact, I will test drive a ton more other cars before I settle on the Cayman. If this had happened on our anniversary trip, it would have caused a divorce for sure. I'm not saying this is common occurance, but if we were stuck with it, the sourness will last for life.

I usually end my posts with the word: enjoy. That's not the right word here. More like: read this and weep.

Yah the service the guy got was unbelievably bad BUT it was never going to be as good as it should have been during the World Cup (employees out on holiday, hungover and calling in sick, etc). No excuse, but I personally would not have chosen to do it during that time frame.

A suprising number of people posting about the master cylinder/clutch plate bolt problems on that forum. Its why I was little more inclined to get an 07 in hopes the problem would be resolved..

What a nightmare,..damn, I AM from Dayton and I don't speak german, so glad it did'nt happen to me ......I guess anyone contemplating an european delivery will think twice nw,...but will Porsche succumb to alfa's fate,...I think not, alas, Porsche's are not just mere wants. they are a need, SIGH!

Now I definitely don't feel bad about choosing not to spend $4,000 to take European Delivery of my Turbo. This really bites! If Kim had this much trouble dealing with Porsche then I can only imagine what it'd be like for me as a deaf person to deal with them. Thanks for pointing this thread out, Pong. A horrifying read, indeed.

I'm am very impressed by the man's willingness to step back and look at the situation that befell him in very objective terms in his last post. That guy has a lot of character.

I would strongly agree with that.

I did a European delivery of my C4S in 2002 and did much of the route as Kim did. No problems luckly.

My least favorite part was,

"BTW, Mr. Froelich of Porsche Committment called me back to see that the rental car had arrived and observed with some pique that he wished that I had not involved so many people in the issue because there were too many cooks in the kitchen, as he put it."

I would've booked a flight directly to Mr. Froelich's location and then proceeded to explain to him in person how utterly useless all these extra cooks were, while holding him by the ankles out of a 14th floor window.

This is really unfortunate. They should reimburse him in some way even though it cannot replace the ordeal he had to go through. I did euro delivery in '03 of my GT3 and it was three of the best weeks of driving ever.
