Default Dension Gateway 500 iPod Adapter Arrived Today

I just received my Dension Gateway 500 iPod adapter for my '05 987S (w/PCM).

I've only had a chance to unbox it, but will attempt installation this weekend.

Here are the pics for anyone interested.

No, I think Eric is selling the Dice electronics model, not the Dension unit. His pictures show the Dice Electronics model.

My understanding is that Dension USA (a seperate company from Dension, although it did distribute Dension products in the past) decided to make their own iPod interface. They setup a separate company for this, called DICE Electronics. DICE Electronics is making an iPod interface, and Dension USA will also be re-selling it. DICE Electronics and Dension USA seem to be very closely affiliated - in fact I believe their phone lines are answered by the same person.

The Dension unit that I bought is from the "real" Dension in Europe. They have been making iPod interfaces for years, whereas DICE Electronics is a recent startup.

Rick,

Do you already have a CD changer installed in your 997? I know these units take the place of the changer, but I'm curious about whether the install is any easier if you have one - i.e., designed to install easier with existing wiring, or whether all new connections are required (MOST, power, etc.)

thanks!

No, I don't have a CD changer, but downloaded the CD changer install TSB from renntech.org and discovered that all 987's are pre-wired for the CD changer.

I just finished removing the plastic panels from the front trunk and found the optical connection cable. This should make for an easy install as I plan to have a dedicated iPod in the front trunk and sync it only once every few weeks.

I'll keep you posted.

According to the Dension web site, the features list indicates "retention of the OEM CD changer". Check out http://www.dension.com/icelinkgateway500.php .

I can hardly wait to hear how this thing really works.
