930 4 speed conversion help needed please
Need info about converting a factory 930 4 speed to 5 speed. I know Ruf did that in the eighties.

Powerhaus has a conversion they do which sounds really impressive as described on their website.
What the final product is like, I can't vouch for. Maybe somebody else can.
If you call them, please post some details on what the price is and so on.

Ruf conversion was proprietary and expensive.. components may still be available through them at an ungodly cost. Try Ruf autocentre in TX.
Current conversion through Powerhaus or Patrick Motorsport both in AZ, and others is typically done using G50 components from the later (87-89) 911 or with the Turbo trans from the 89 Turbo is known as the G50/50. G50/50 is a little harder to come by as they're were fewer of the cars around.
The conversion process is both expensive and laborious. Part of the conversion consists of changing over from cable operated clutch to hydraulic. Will require lines and complete pedal assembly from later car. As for the trans, it has to be disassembled, and both the bell housing and the mainshaft shortened. This so it all fits the earlier chassis. I have heard of some folks that modify their torsion tube to get fitment.
In terms of price..figure on the low of $8k to a high of $12k by the time you're done!
Hope this helps you decide..

I just got off the phone with David at powerhaus and I was told 10500 for the entire kit for a G50 with a Guard LSD that of course does not include the install, on the other hand the G50/50 which David states really is not necessary is more in line with the 13.2 I paid to have mine built by Jim Patrick.
The transmission included a billet side plate, steel synchros, chromoly guard lsd, pedal box, hydraulic lines etc. Additionally you will need a new clutch, pressure plate and gobs of dough for the install, I can't imagine one more gear being worth that but I will let you know when I drive it.

I honestly think these prices are a bit over the top except for a harcore track car.
The G50/01 has been driven on my 600HP TT for a while now including some mild track days and it is still holding great, only upgrade is a fantastic Hargett shifter. I have never felt any handicap on the street.

Thanks to all
WE can always count on the rennlist P-Car guys to throw out a lifeline. Thanks!
BTW,the tranny goes in a 200 mph+ 1964 Chevy Corvair. Can you believe that?
