Help! My horn works with car off and NOT on?
I just installed my 3 spoke wheel and the horn works when the car is off but not when it is on?
What's the deal?

This happened to a Boxster owner after he replaced the dash. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...=14923&hl=horn
Not the electrical guy, but there are 2 wires for the horn and you really cannot hook them up wrong because they are different lengths. One wire goes to the steering wheel and the other goes to the horn plate. These 2 wires create a ground so even if you could reverse them it would not matter.

The horn is connected directly to power all the time(not switched power) so that it can work when the car is off AND on.
Where in the circuit of the horn system could there be a mishap that causes the horn system to work off of SWITCHED power rather than CONSTANT power?

Just curious...is the 3 spoke a factory unit or a 3rd party unit? If 3rd party, did it have any speical requirements for the horn to function?
Like you this doesn't make any sense as it shouldn't matter if the car is on or off, it should work at all times.

Bad grounds cause incorrect travel of electricity. They always take the shortest path so maybe when the key is on, somehow, power is grounding through another circuit? **shrug**
I feel for you, these things can cause headaches.

It doesn't get much more simple than that. The wheel isn't by chance a tiptronic wheel, is it?
