Default Aftermarket external oil cooler help...

I have purchased an external oil cooler for my 86 NA 944...It has the sandwich plate that screws on the stock filter housing...Has anyone done one of these? I can't seem to route the fittings and hoses in any way that makes them fit in that small area...I did a search but did not see any posts relating to the sandwich plate type of coolers.

Save yourself time and find someone selling parts off an S2 or 951 engine and get the oil filter housing and external oil cooler and lines. You can find a used complete setup for $200 (they are harder to find though). Then just get a new oil cooler gasket for a turbo engine and you're good to go. Stock mounting etc.

I have known some cars to do this, but I honestly don't know how they made it fit.

I just did this on my race car. I used 45 degree -10AN fittings off of the adapter. The hoses run under the frame rail and back to the top of the oil cooler that is mounted to the diagonal brace behind the fog light. I used 150degree fittings on top of the cooler. The cooler is a 235mm 16 row MOCAL. I also mounted a small fan behind the cooler wired to my radiator fans. If I did it again I think I would have bought a "push" fan and mounted it in front. Just for grins I removed the foglight and made a little grille to fill the space. Finally I made a bracket so I can put the foglight back in to be legal for I-stock. Even with the foglight in place there appears to be plenty of room to draw air under the bumper. No leaks in 3 weekends. Sorry but the car is already loaded on my trailer for an upcoming trip or I would take some pics. I can do so next week if you like.
I know the sandwich adapters get some bad ink, but really if properly installed they are no more likely to leak than an oil filter.
Cheers
Randy
