Default High-Pitched Whining Sound

When I am decelerating in first or second gear I often hear a high-pitched whining sound coming from the engine (more towards the passenger side I think) that gets louder as the rpms drop, starting around 3000 and getting really loud below 1500. It stops when I step on the clutch. Anyone else experience this or have any idea what's going on?

would almost bet is the power steering resorvoir. i had very similar symptoms. just had the resorvoir changed at the dealership at a tune of $1k. not covered under cpo. there is currently a technical bulliten out by porsche regarding this issue. a technical bulliten is not a recall. good luck

Agreed. It sounds like the power steering resevoir.

The only other high pitched whining noise from the passenger side comes from the wife, which is far more costly to replace.

Thanks. I will look into that. Where can I find the technical bulletin you referred to? I had no luck doing Web searches.

Thanks. That cannot be it because it happens even when she is not in the car.

I am going to the dealer tomorrow to have the leaking oil seal gaskets replaced (under CPO warranty), so I will look into this issue also.

don't know where to get it except at the dealership. maybe kevin or some other tuner on this board might have it.

Just had mine replaced two weeks ago. Figure close to $1K for the job. It's so nice to drive now without that whine!

You just bought the car a few weeks ago! I'd drive it right back to the dealer you bought it from and demand that they cover it. (Maybe call 'em first, but you get the idea). No reason you should have to fork over a grand in repairs for a CPO car that you just bought 2-3 weeks ago. The dealership's CPO process should've picked up the whine and repaired it before certifying the car. Just my $.02. GBG

I will see what the local dealer says. Maybe it will be covered under teh CPO warranty. If not, I will contact the selling dealer as you suggest.

Dealer told me today that he will replace the steering oil reservoir under the CPO warranty to address the whining sound. I am supposed to get the car back next week. They also fixed the oil seal gasket leak today under CPO warranty, and are looking into the clutch pedal vibration issue. So far so good.

Is it the pump or the resorvoir?
