Default Oil bore hole missing recall

My C2S goes in to the dealer for this recall today if my RS is ready for pickup. It seems some C2S engines have an oil hole that lubricates a chain tensioner missing. Anybody else get this? Will I get a new engine if it is missing?

Please scan the notice and post it here.

Geez and I've been hearing a very slight squeaking sound coming from the engine at idle...just great

Exclamation INFO

Service campaign is W733, dated may 25, 2007 and affects 112 cars worldwide, if the oil supply bore is missing (cylinders 1-3) a new cylinder head will be installed. The notice also affects a very small # boxsters and caymans; most cars are 997S's about 70, and 9 Carrera non S's.

Apparently the inspection process is very time consuming as the dealer has had the car all day. They told me I would prob get a new motor if I have this issue. Break in all over again.

As I reported above, the protocol is for a new cylinder head according to the notice given to the dealers from Porsche...perhaps if the car is under a certain # of miles they will go for a new engine? Good luck and keep us posted...hey maybe you can persuade them to get you an X51 engine for all the hassle lol.

BTW, the water cooled engines are all of a modular design and meant to be replaced at the end of their service life vs. being rebuilt...my how things have changed...

Thanks for the heads-up!

I wonder how can we know if our car is affected by this recall?

Is there a list of VIN that shows those cars are affected? Or all of our cars have to be back to the dealer for them to open the engine and inspect it physically?

Thanks again for any insights,

With best regards,
- Alex.

You're most welcome. If Porsche NA has your correct address you will be notified by them.

Here is a vin range for 997S's I was given:

WPOAB29967S732434-WPOAB29917S732504 (Mussul Kar is your VIN in this range?)

and here is the range for Non S 997's:

WPOAA299X7S711380-WPOAA29967S7711389

Hope this helps.

Thanks again, I just checked my 07 997S, its VIN is:

WPOAA29997S731***

Seems it is out of the recall VIN range, I guess... ?

With best regards,
- Alex.

Really appreicate for the info.

BTW, how do I read this? If my non S 997's VIN is WP0AA29906Sxxxxxx, does this fall in the range?

Cheers,
Heejin

I was thinking more on the line of a GT3 engine.
I'm not holding my breath though.

I'm supposed to pick it up today but have not heard anything yet.

Use the last 6 digits - so if your VIN ends with 711380 to 711389, you in the range. As 500 said, only a small number of non-S vehicles are in the range.

Mine is in the 731 range too...I just hope they don't extend the range at a later date.

Tell them you want a GT3 engine, then settle on an X51

Keep us posted.

The GT3 might be a stretch since it's a completely different engine...but the X51 engine would slide right in - I hope he gets it.
