Default New track N. of Atlanta

I was at a local monthly car meet yesterday where a bunch of us junkies go to swap tales and we met this guy named Jeremy. According to him he and some other investors have acquired 70 acres off of Georgia 400 north of Atl. in Forsyth County. He swears they just passed zoning and this will come to fruition in the next year.
After hearing rumors of the same kind of tracks all around the country I am skeptical but maybe this one will actuall pan out.
Here is the link to the website. Jeremy gave me the web address and immediately apologized for how bare bones it was but said they are working on it as well.

70 acres seems too small for a track

Plenty, just cut back on the run-off and paddock size... do it the Limerock way.

It is only 1.5 miles but it is supposed to have close to 65' of elevation change. They are supposed to run carts as well. It may not be a big time track but for folks that go to Talledega Gran Prix in Ala. to do test and tune/track days it is a closer alternative.

sounds a lot like the USA international raceway here in WI. A big kart track that they run autox and test and tune days on as well.

It looks as though they could divide it into separate tracks too.

Interesting

1.5 miles is fine as long as it's configured well. As much as I dislike the management of LRP I love running there and it's about the same length. I think more important is the safety aspect of a new track. No track should be built nowadays that isn't designed with good runoff and safety as a major concern. The Summit track (Shenendoah?) lined with concrete walls is one that freaks me out.. won't run there.

Memphis is only about 1.8 miles, and it's sorta ok.

Not sure 11 or 12 turns, depending on how you count, in 1.5 miles is a good configuration. Also, they don't mention any FIA or other santioning body design standards. Any good track includes that if they are serious.

I'm in ATL, but I've seen 3-4 of these pop up over the last couple of years, and I just don't see it happening.

I guess having Road Atlanta so close makes me really picky.

The track looks like it could be run in 3 different configurations. 1.5 is pretty small. I hope they don't sacrifice runoff for lack of acreage. I also wish it were not being proposed up the worst corridor in the state.

Wish someone were proposing a replacement possibility for Road Atlanta. Nobody is disputing the probability that it will be gone in 10 yrs or so. Too many residential communities moving next door. Have you noticed that no improvements have been made to any structure for....How long? 1/2 of forever?

Is Forsyth county any better than Hall county? It's been 13 years since I lived in Cumming, GA (Forsyth cty) and last time I check it was growing like a weed. Also, it has a lot more topo, as in no flat areas IIRC.

Well it is Atlanta so you know it is still growing. Jeremy did say the property is adjacent to 400 on one side so at least you sort of have that as a buffer. The growth in that direction though has definitely slowed though because of the ever increasing traffic on 400.

The truth is that in the long run the traffic situation will be the demise of the mega-growth in this town IMHO. That is another discussion for another time and place so I will leave it at that.

At any rate having another track alternative in the area can't be a bad thing in my view.

Sounds pretty cool. Only 2.5 hrs from me that would be nice. That would make 3 tracks with in 3 hrs drive.
