Rennlist private lapping day at Mosport – June 10

Suggestions:
-not many - it was a really good day, as evidenced by smiles and lack of incidents.
-traffic was very light. maybe a few more drivers so it's a bit cheaper for everyone? Or did several people just not show?
-I prefer an open track rather than run groups, provided everyone's respectful (i.e. the advanced drivers are patient and the beginner drivers give pass signals), but I completely understand breaking it into groups. The advantage to an open track, IMO, is that 1. the beginners get a chance to follow the advanced people around to learn a bit and 2. there's no pressure to make the most out of every lap, so less chance of an accident (though as we saw, this wasn't a problem). I also like going out with other drivers to see what they're doing, but in a run group situation I don't want to give up any time. But again, I understand if the less advanced guys aren't comfortable with this.
I liked that it was a real lapping day, rather than a school, test and tune day, etc. Much more relaxed and social.
This was definitely the most fun day I've had at Mosport.

If you do Calabogie, what about making it a 2-day event? Makes the long drive a bit more worth it.
What are costs for Calabogie? Similar to Mosport, or cheaper?

While Calabogie would be interesting, the 5 hour drives to and from on the 401, etc... aren't so appealing. Also to get the best rates it will probably have to be mid week and it's a bit too far to do it as a day trip.
Love Mosport for the proximity; sleep at home at the end of the day.
I suggest we stick to run groups and the 30 car max (15 and 15) was great...no trains! It also makes sure that people take a break every 25 mins; less fatique = less potential for incidents. I think that the next one will gather even more interest so just like this time, we need to make sure that no complete beginners attend. Requirements should still be that they've been on a track before and/or attended something like the PCA UCR introductory driving school (skid pad). Our green group was quite experienced compared to the green group at the PCA event in May.

We ran an event at Calabogie last year.. and are trying a 2 day event this year.
It is tough to get people out from Toronto, we had less then 1/4 our normal turn out, including the extra guys that we got from Ottawa but we are hopeful that the 2 day format will make it more worthwhile for guys to drive out.
Calabogie is a really fun track that is run by first class people. It is well worth the trip.

More? That sucks.
I would like to drive Calabogie, but the drive there is a huge turnoff. I'd probably only do a 2-day event with lots of track time (i.e. not UCR).

There is always shannonville , no too far and I am sure is much cheaper then the Calabogie or Mosport. Also only one place the wall on the front straight where there is anything to hit. I heard Calabogie is $$

This is the 2007 price for Calabogie, I don't have 2008 price. Just speaking from my experience, my bimmer friends will go to shannonville anytime anyday, not a problem. Maybe only 5-10% of them willing to go to Calabogie. It is only another 1-1.5hrs drive, but that make a big difference.

Shannonville charges more than Mosport for track rental. It's too bad UCR dropped it because it's a pretty good track.

Now how the hell does that make one bit of sense? Mosport requires a ton more support - at least 4 or 5 marshals, full ambulance and tow truck support, and I'd imagine insurance costs would be double those at Shannonville. Plus, it's Mosport - it's on the bloody ALMS circuit, for chrissakes. Shannonville is fun, bo doubt, but it's just not in the same league as mosport, and doesn't require the same number of people to stage an event. There's no way I'd pay $400 for a day of lapping at Shannonville when I can pay $200 and drive Dunnville or TMP, which are almost as good, and 30 minutes from my house. At $400 a day, I want a track like Mosport or the Glen.
