Default Front Control Arm Rear Mount Bushing. Defective part?



Look the gaps inside the rubber. Difference is 90 degrees.

I think that the right one is the lower one. Edit, right one is the top one.

I got both bushings from allzim.com

Looking at the ones I got from the Porsche dealer, they look more like your bottom picture than the top one.

Personally I don't think that this is going to make a huge difference in handling, unless you are tracking this car very hard.

When I look that one then the top one should be the right one.

Upgrade to the latest 968 castor block. They make a world of difference.

Got the answer from allzim.com

Joonas,

Yes, it looks like you have a defective part. 99.9% of people would not
have noticed that (including me, obviously). I am terribly sorry for this
problem.

We do repair here so I asked our 944 technician and our alignment guy about
it. Both of them said the rubber should be on the sides, like the top one
in the picture.

Please discard the bad one. I'll mail a replacement to you tomorrow.

One bushing looks likes that now


I hammered the intruding part back in and made some locking notches to hold it in.

Just low quality part?
Does someone know how right part should look like (gaps in the rubber)?
When should I tighten the bolt that goes through that bushing? When car is sitting on level surface?

these are cheaper castor blocks(but I admit, I have a set). But i think Less play than stock and cheaper than machined blocks. Fine for the street. And the center hole is sometimes undersized for A arm pin. I agree with above that the correct block is the one with the major pads on the sides.

Front ones can wear out too. If you have a power steering leak like I did, it will eat away the rubber; as well as age and other things..

I want to know which one is the right one on the first picture. Did not find the picture in 968 factory manuals.

The top part is built correctly.

These are upgraded 968 Castor blocks, I just bought a pair from DeutschePartsUSA for $99 for my 944T.

When your were installed were the 2 nuts loosened when the castor was set? It looks like the centre was torn out on yours!

When castor was set the two bolts were loosened. After the alignment the bushing looked ok. Deformation happened later while driving. I do not know when but I think it was at the track day when my engine spun #2 rod bearing also.
