Painted my rotor hats today
After detailing my 18" summer Twists yesterday, before I put them on I wanted to finally rid my car of the rusted ugly looking rotor hats! So, I followed the simple procedures I used when I did the same thing to my 944, and got excellent rust-free results. I used BRUSH on Rustoleum 'hammered' silver. Only thing I had to mask were the calipers. Brushing leaves no brush marks since the paint cures with a cool hammered metal look. Check em out:
After painting (just found a before shot from when I first picked up the car)
Rims mounted, no rust = 100% better, IMHO!

No, I talked about wanting to do it, never got around to doing the 996 rotors. I did use the same paint on my 944, maybe that's what you are thinking of?

Hopefully I'll manage to get mine painted in a couple of weeks when a hole opens up in my calendar.

I had no trouble with durability on my 944, and the brush on paint is extremely easy to work with. Any excess gets scrubbed off by the brake pads.
Also, this was the first time using jack stands on the 996, and it couldn't be easier thanks to the tutorial on Rennech.org.

You did all 4 at the same time? I've seen the Renntech article, but have not dared getting all 4 corners up in the air at the same time.

Believe me, I am a total wimp when it comes to jacking cars, yet I had ZERO problems getting all 4 corners onto the jack stands. Car is solid as a rock on 4 stands if you follow the Renntech instructions.

Took me a year to do it because I am lazy too! Finally got to it after looking at the rusted hats all winter. I am a wheel guy, and nothing looks nicer than clean rims and no rust on the rotors (can't avoid the rust in the little holes though)!
The paint dries in less than an hour. I left the wheels off for a few hours, just to make sure. But it does dry fast. Especially since you are not slopping on a thick coat. Beauty is, it stops rust, so there shouldn't be any rust bubbling through the paint in a year, etc.
