Ruf Dallas Trip - Report and PICS (many)
Hi All,
Since 1995, Steve (CA993Twin) and I had talked about a road trip to pay homage at Ruf in Dallas. We have just completed that trip (I know, we have very slow cars ). So here are some observations on this trip of a life time.
PEOPLE: This is the greatest part. The 3 driving buddys (Terry, Steve, and Javier) are just great guys. We never had a dull moment on the road. We got to meet Wayne, Hans, and the Ruf crew. Chuck Sertich, whom I had aspired to meet since 2004, was kind enough to drive through killer storms to join us from TN. Then there are the TX locals, Tony (and his lovely family), Adrianne, Keith, Dan, Marvin, Jim, Patrick, Jonathan, and too many others to list. We enjoyed meeting you all.
ROADS: If you love to drive, pay attention here. In Utah, Highway 95 between Monticello and Cedar City. This Canyon run is incredible. Roads and setting are the best I have seen. Nevada: Highways 219, 375 and 6. This is as close to driving on the autobahn as one gets while in the States. No traffic, no cops, just miles of open road with unlimited visibility. CA: Highway 120 between Benton and Highway 395. Terry and I literally LOL because the road is so much fun. I will not divulge the fun factor here. You go try it out yourself. You will NOT Regret it. The 4 turbos got many chances for boost-checks. Amazing how much fun one can have staying below 75 MPH. We did 4,232 miles in 7 days, and 1,000 miles on the last day home. Every mile is
MEMORABLE EVENTS: my odometer had 2 readings I am proud of: 123,321 and 123,456 miles. I have pics of each for you here. Seeing all these low miles beauties on this site. How many 993s actually bring this many miles of driving pleasure to their owners.
The Magazine Autobahnambitionmag.com interviewed the 4 of us during the Ruf gathering. They should have a future article on our drive and our cars. That is pretty cool.
FINAL THOUGHTS: I am a blessed man. Living where I live, driving a Ruf, and having Rennlist buddies to share the drive and the experience. Please take you beloved 993s on road trips. It really enriches our lives.
Now the Pics. Please bear with me for posting so many. I really had a hard time paring it down. Enjoy.

Pong- your travel pics are inspiring as always. This last batch just reminded me of what a great, beautiful country we have here.
Something for us and our "upscale" friends and co-workers to consider when making '08-'09 travel plans: instead of getting brutalized by the Euro for your third trip to Tuscanny or whereever, consider seeing the USA this time. As we can see, there's a lot out there. I just got back from the pacific NW and plan to go to Colorado this summer.
In '05, I took a spectacular trip to Argentina. 3 to 1 exchange rate means a furnished apartment for $250 a week, a great steak dinner and a bottle of decent wine for $16 and a SRO ticket at their world-class opera house (think La Scala) for $1. You read that right. PM if you ever want details. Sorry for the mini-hijack.

Pong,
Wow, sounds and looks like it was truly an amazing trip for you guys. I should've joined as I did have some time off at the moment, I do need to drive my car more. Glad you guys made it back safe. Some one needs to plan a little Bay Area gathering soon again.
