Default sill cover - parts laid out for all to see

I recently removed the passenger side sill cover to replace my oil thermostat insert. I thought I would take the time to layout the parts for all see...

Thanks!

(I'm still studying the photos because I've never dropped the sill before. Looks like something I should do, though... Just for grins.)

Do yourself a favor and replace BOTH white (male) and red (female) clips. Only then can you be sure that it will be rock solid. The white clips are flimsy (that's why everyone always buys extra when doing this), but the red tab holders are actually what hold the top of the sill cover to the body. The red holders are the basis for a solid foundation.

The old rubber trim was rigor-mortise stiff (and a couple cm short)...new rubber is very soft, fits nicely into the sill cover slot and is nicely held into place with slot/guides at the ends...it all fits together with the precision that you would expected from a Porsche.

It's actually a quite easy project, but like most people I was afraid of all the little parts that I couldn't see. Now having done it, it's actually straight forward.

You want even more pictures...

I tired to save everyone from the mundane steps. I did wash everything, but only used quick detailer/spray-on wax as I didn't have time to go full on concours. Even used a clay bar on the car body where the new rubber sill strips contact the car.

Everything was cleaned...

And best of all - that damned thermostat now opens - along with oil & motor running cooler.

You have endured w/ success your first trial as 964-Jedi, young Obi Wan.

Default Obi Wan = Udo Wan

No worries.

I have a whole list of projects coming up...remove sunroof to re-connect drive cable, remove drivers seat to re-attach seat height cable/worm gear, adjust headlight angle (finishing from a previous repair), etc.

It does feel good that it didn't have to go to shop for this fix though!

This car will keep me humble... Obi Wan = Udo Wan

PS Lonnie - with the sill cover removed I did touch the hot oil lines just to get a sense of the heat...and looked for damaged on the hard oil lines. Thought about you as I said ouch that's hot!

Best,
Udo

Great photos and I'm sure they're helpful if you have not taken thes psrts off.

However, that white nylon pin with the red bushing is incorrect for the shark fin. The shark fin gets the white nylon fittings that have bolts that use the same plastic nuts as on the bottom of the rocker trim under the car.

Also, the epoxy that you use to attach the new nylon pieces to the shark fin is critical. It's been discussed here before.
