I'll second Miller. They have been running a contingency. 50% off with a time sheet.

I've been changing mine after 10-15 hours and the oil analysis has been looking OK. XP9 oil.
I also check the oil filter for debris after every event. It can be removed with only minor oil loss.

Lots of good and valuable info here. Thanks. I've already ordered a sample kit from Blackstone Labs and have registered for the Millers Oils contingency program. Thanks again for the feedback.

Shame it looks like it won't be 50% this year, the oil costs double of most others so it kind of evened out...

I use Blackstone Labs to confirm my decision on frequency of changing oil....use 10W-50 Brad Penn semi-synthetic race engine oil...run 15-20 hours per sEason and the change oil and no issues and lab results show no negative issues.

I'm confused. Spec Boxster doesn't run a "race engine." Engines are stock, per PCA rules. While I can understand using an expensive oil for an enduro weekend, why would you do a $200 oil change after a sprint weekend that maybe puts a few hundred miles (and 2 engine hours) on the car?

It's totally dependent (for me) on the report I get back from Blackstone. In my 911 running 20w50 Mobil 1 the oil showed negligible breakdown after a race and several DE days. Two races and many more DE days it started to degrade minimally but still was fine for use. When I drained it the oil was still amber and looked new. You are only guessing unless you have it tested, regardless of the price of the oil.

I should add my experience is a 944, the oil weight is 20W-50. The color of the oil has not changed significantly, adding about a qt in 15-20 hrs of track time. Apologize for the confusion

I've been running Motul 300V 5W/40 for a few years in my Cayman S. When the Moly jumped in the oil report was the start of the 300V usage.

Three seasons and still running strong, and I haven't seen or heard of any spb engine explosions in that time amongst my buds in the northeast. I really think this issue is way over blown. (As long as you follow the basic recommendations with regard to deep sump pan, ims upgrade, and accusump). I run redline and change oil every three events (maybe every other if I run the enduro)

Glen, your buddy and fellow bumper rubber blew a motor at VIR this year. Although, it was likely the result of the hot weather we had this year at VIR. I lost a transmission at that race weekend also, likely heat related also.

I personally use Redline oil in my car. Oil life is only part of the equation when looking at oils. I change my oil after every race weekend, as others have said, cheap insurance. I also run a different, bigger filter that has been relocated to the trunk.

How much do you want for that hood?
