Default Oil of choice?

New to SPB and new to the car. What is the motor oil and weight of choice for the 2.5L? Thanks in advance for sharing.

Look into the Driven X series of race oils from Joe Gibbs.

0W40 or 5W40. M1, Redline, Joe Gibbs, Pennzoil Euro, etc.. M1 Racing if you don't mind the added cost.

Seriously? That's a $hity response & attitude. You asked your question at 1:42 PM. I gave you a solid recommendation at 1:44 PM. Same day. Sorry I did not respond by 1:43 PM. I'll try harder the next time.

Here more help for you:

Previous car owner insists on Liqui Moly 10w-60 (which is pretty much impossible to find).

He also says change the oil after every weekend. That seems pretty excessive.

There are plenty of 5w-40 oils out there. (M1, Redline, Joe Gibbs, Pennzoil Euro have been mentioned above), but no one has brought up Motul 8100 X-cess.

^ I used to run Motul 8100 5w40

Now use Millers - runs about 5 degrees cooler (whatever it takes to keep engine temps down is worth doing).

And yes, I agree with the previous owner of your car - change your oil after every event. Welcome to racing.

I agree, and examine the screen for any contaminants as it may save you a motor and possibly more. I would even go one step further and send the oil to Blackstone for analysis to keep track of what is going on inside and how well your oil (whichever you choose) is holding up. Cheap insurance.

I have a little different take on things...Changing oil after every event is Expensive Insurance. A well tuned motor in reasonably good shape should easily go 12-14 hours between OCI's if you are using a high quality oil. I have years of Used Oil Analysis reports supporting this in many varieties of Porsche race engines. Many people change oil because it makes them feel better. I'd spend the money elsewhere. Alll bets are off if your engine suffers from high fuel dilution, overheating, or has a previously existing internal problem.

FYI, most of us spent a lot of time and money sweating the details and developing our cars. I think it's a pretty generous forum re. sharing experience but you gotta play nice

Which is exactly why I advocate oil analysis. Blackstone (or others) will tell you if you are throwing away perfectly good oil, if there is a dilution issue, wear issue, or contaminants that could cause harm. I plan on changing mine after her first race and then use that report as data for future change intervals. Other than that you are just guessing and/or tossing $$ away needlessly.

If not after every race, how often should the oil be changed? And what about the other fluids?
