Default What would be Porsche's response to Plaid?

Elon basically copy pasted the some of the numbers of Roadster to Plaid.

But what would Porsche do now?

Nothing. Just like they aren't going to do anything with Lucid potentially releasing a faster vehicle as well.

This isn't the first time a cheaper car was faster than a Porsche.

Elon, should stop trying to compete with Porsche, and make his own cars for his own customers as he's been doing all along.

With so much new competition on the horizon. He's gonna need to broaden the base of his current customers with more mainstream offerings 1st, then up the quality component for the luxury competitors (Benz; BMW; Lucid; Audi, etc.). Besides the semi and the pick up truck (yikes), he can worry about Porsche after. Nonetheless, I'm sure he'll do this (focus on the bread and butter). He just seems to get caught up in the numbers game, when so many Taycan buyers know better, would not care to begin with.

Plus, after the split, and with his reputed 5G military contracts, he could leave Tesla high and dry when it has actual competition and needs true management solutions.

We'll see?

Good point. Tesla has lost very few sales to the Taycan.

They should be focused on cars like the VW ID.4 announced today. That could hurt sales of the Model 3 and Y.

As was said before, there are plenty of cars that are faster than a Porsche in a straight line drag race. I honestly don't think Porsche cares that the Tesla can accelerate in a straight line faster than the Taycan. I don't expect them to have any response. The question is, which car is more enjoyable to drive? Does the car put a smile on you face every time you drive it? That's what Porsche has always focused on as their main goal, and I believe they will continue to do so.

Seems like the Plaid model competes more with the Lucid Air Dream than the Taycan Turbo S when you consider performance, range, and price. The Lucid Air has a 1:33 Laguna Seca lap time while the Plaid has 1:30. As for more mainstream offerings, Elon says they will have a $25k EV in 3 years.

I hear ya.
Until we see a car, I take all this with a grain of salt.
Elon (and maybe Lucid now) play the faux, long game well IMO.
Unless, there's true alleged/reputed roadster tech implemented. I don't see how Elon can make any quantum gains with the Plaid, based off the offerings he has now.

Porsche will be behind for a while and then release it’s own tri motor EV. Audi is already road testing one. It’ll be a wild decade. As manitou suggests, the ID3 and ID4 have about 3 years before armageddon on pricing and battery tech.

Porsche's already been testing a Quad Motor Macan (for anonymity purposes) the past year or two, FYI.

You may have missed the Battery Day Presentation but there were specific gains discussed that would directly impact the Plaid S. I don't know if the Plaid they used to benchmark the specs released has any or all of these improvements but using the cell pack as a structural member while also reducing the weight 50% would be very noticeable. But I'd really like to see what impact bringing the center of gravity more central by reducing the cells at the perimeter has on handling.
But to your point, I would define:
  1. 54% increase in range
  2. 56% reduction in cost
  3. 69% reduction in manufacturing capex
  4. 14% increase in charging speed
  5. 50% less weight
  6. 5X increase in energy
  7. 6X increase in power
quantum gains.

I think his point was that you can say whatever you want. But until the rubber meets the road, it's all talk.
