Description:
For sale as a rolling chassis only due to engine failure. I sincerely appreciate those that have shown interest in the car. As noted earlier, the car has suffered what is thought to have been a spun bearing, based on the misfire codes and noise it made when cranked by my mechanic. I am in discussion with a couple of the members and a dismantler about selling it as a rolling chassis.
Thank you.
I purchased the car in Miami in March 2018 from member, Hardback, https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...onversion.html. I bought it with intention of making it a daily driver with doing 3-4 track events a year. The car has approximately 113900 miles. I am the 3rd owner and have most records, dating back to the first owner. I keep a Google spreadsheet of works done on the car, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing. I am selling the car as I am purchasing another car.
2002 C4S that had a "D chunk" failure and rebuilt by TuneRS in Florida:
- 3.8L LN cylinder and JE pistons.
- LN Triple row ceramic IMS bearing was installed at the same time.
- 0.5 Qt. Deep Sump
- Porsche Sports Exhaust
- Fabspeed 200-cell cat
- Intake airbox mod
- approximately 40,000 miles on rebuilt engine
- Please check the Google docs for more detailed items replaced during the rebuild, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing
Below are items I've done to the car since purchasing it.
Suspension Work, all done by TPC in Maryland:
- Ohlins coilover
- Rear axle replaced (boot on the driver side was torn)
- GT3 Lower Control Arm for camber change on the front
- Rear control arms replaced
- Outer tie rods replaced
- Front & rear strut mounts replaced
- Tarret GT3-style sway bars and end links.
- Alignment set up to European GT3 spec
Interior:
- Kenwood Excelon DDX6903S with Apple CarPlay AV receiver & rear view camera
- JBL 329 and GTO 529 speakers (dash, rear sides, and sub).
- All weather rubber mat
- Leather dash does not have any shrinkage problem
Maintenance Items (in the past 2 years):
- Front and rear brake pads and rotors replaced
- Spark plugs and coils
- Power steering pumps and reservoir replaced due to leak
- Drive belt and idler pulleys
- Cabin and engine air filters replaced
- Engine lid support struts replaced
Other items done:
- Light Saver for the taillight assembly
- 35% tint on the side windows and 50% for the rear glass
The exterior is NOT pristine, there are scuffs and scratches here and there. Rocker panel covers that were painted by previous owner are flaking off in tiny spots here and there, which I tried to show in the pictures. I had the wheels refinished from black to silver but managed to chip both rear wheels in couple spots. There are also small "paint cracks" showing near the wheel caps in couple of spots. The brake calipers were refinished by previous owner but "paint cracks" appeared on them during his ownership.
The infamous shooting foams from vent was partially dealt with. While installing the head unit, I was able to get to the front flap which I cleaned up and put aluminum duct tapes on, but the rear flap was impossible to get to, so there is still small pieces coming out occasionally, but far less than it used to. Overall, air flows seems to work fine and AC feels stronger than my 997.
The car pulls as hard as 997.1 Carrera S (which has 355 bhp) and sounds amazing with the PSE and airbox mod. Most of the major maintenance items have been taken cared and I've changed engine oils with Redline synthetic oil. I do have the front drive shaft which will go with the car. The PO did mention that he had to fix front diff leak before taking it out completely.
If you are looking for a perfect, or near-perfect 996, then this one may not be it. However, if you want something that you can drive without being obsessive about every chips and scratches, and want an RWD 996 with the wide rear end, this one may check the box.
I do have a lien on the car through Pentagon Federal Credit Union.
I also have a set of Ferodo DS2500 pads for sale, https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1183065
Thank you.
There was also a quad bearing IMS (no kidding) that pre-dated the triple bearing setup that used conventional ball bearings, before we had the ceramics made up for us.

4s uprights, as far as I am aware.
You can see from my Google sheet record what was replaced during the rebuild. I also have the paperwork and most of the maintenance records as mentioned.
thanks.
Thank you for the comments. I thought I had a perfect buyer for the car, a gentleman who used to be an SCCA racer and owned 996 before that came out to drive it and loved it, and then the whole world stopped.....
1) Have you ever tried to address the difference in the way the front bummer sits? Just wondering
2) Perhaps LN can comment, but what is the lifespan on the triple row IMS? Should it be replaced at the same frequency other IMS replacements should be addressed?
3) Noticed the front pads and rotors were replaced at different times. Everything cohesive now?
4) If you were keeping it, is there anything that you would be addressing?

2) According to LN, it is 6 years or 75k, whichever comes first.
3) When I updated the suspension, I had new front and rear pads with rear rotors installed. I kept the front because it was only a year old and ~5,000 miles old.
4) The 3rd brake light rubber trim is cracked and missing in small chunks so might replace that but otherwise whatever maintenance items that come up.
