Description:

All aluminum logo'd gas cap for the Porsche 996, 997, Cayman, Boxster. Unlike the  “Alumi Look” from Porsche - which are plastic - that sell for  $115, these are nice, weighty aluminum for much less.

I had one on my 997.2 turbo for 3 years, looks great, feels great (solid and strong) never had a CEL like you hear about with some caps. Brand new in box. $59 (+$7sh)

What brand is this or who makes it? I assume not OEM but may be interested.

I am not sure as I've never known of a brand of these (?), but it looks like a Dorman design for the sealing yet from there most every maker would have their own shape or logo inclusion.

Got a 996 turbo. Would this fit? and is there a possibility to add the string to the gas door? I guess it would have to be retrofitted or custom.

Yes, these do indeed fit the 996 turbo (and all 996, 986 cars, plus 997, 987). These do not use the tether at all. I always just put my cap on the plastic at the base of the windshield.

Its just how they're made. The plastic tethers of course fit loosely inside a groove cut into the plastic cap to allow the cap to spin. These are machined out of aluminum without that provision. My F 360 also uses a tether (aluminum cap) but it too rides inside the plastic part. They are regularly snapped.

Anyway, if having a gas cap that is bound by the tether is important, the other option is to go with the plastic 'Alumi Look' Porsche one.

Had three people say "I"ll take one" which was the last of these, but didn't follow through (though I PM'd)

So if you want one, PM for PayPal/Venmo and I'll send yours out.

Thank you so much! Yeah, its a small piece but it adds that bit of quality and heft more up to the standard of the car. Glad you like it!

Got mine last week as well Thank Adams! For others, my plastic tether snapped off so this was a great excuse to upgrade and get rid of the tether.

I'm sorry to say it does not. In typical Porsche fashion, they changed the filler neck right after that (G series up til 996 started) and went to this design which lasted until end of 997 cars. Far as I know - which isn't alot - you're relegated to the screw on style with anodized metal, black, or red plastic. But at least you have the awesome filler protection flap in your era! I actually put one of those on my F360 just because of how neat that is!

Ha! Any reason is a good reason! Whenever my wife questions my car purchases, I do my best to insert the word safety.
