I purchased at 12k miles in February 2017 as my wife and I were expecting our first child. It's a fantastic little car and incredibly capable at moving from Point A to B very quickly. My son is now 9-months old and I'm looking for something a bit bigger. I'm the third owner - car has always been owned by enthusiasts.
- First bought this and an F80 M3. He drove the car 9.3k miles and decided to stick with the M3.
- Second bought the car as a city car (always garaged, no street parking and zero bumper scars). He titled this in Idaho however, the car remained in the SF Bay Area. This allowed him to run the APR Stage II tune and catted downpipe (more on that later). He was a mechanical engineer with a host of fun toys. His track cars included an E30 M3 with an LS3 and an FD RX7 with an LS7. He sold the car along with an R8 and 997.2 Turbo to fund a new business venture.

This R has been upgraded to address both the weaknesses in the OEM design and
take advantage of low hanging fruit to raise the output. All of the work was performed by the second owner. We removed the downpipe on his lift so that I could register in CA and pass smog. He was a Type-A personality (as am I) with great attention to detail. The upgrades have been on the car ~8k miles, and it drives perfectly. New Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires were installed at 16k miles in September. It is an amazing vehicle, hopefully a fellow enthusiast can enjoy it as I have. All OEM parts are included with ~10k miles.

The car has the following upgrades:
- APR Stage I High Torque Tune: https://www.goapr.com/products/ecu_u...en3_mqb_r.html

- HS Tuning RSR Clutch Kit (TTRS Clutch): https://www.hstuning.com/product_inf...oducts_id=3888

- 42 Draft Design Catted Downpipe (uninstalled): http://www.42draftdesigns.com/vw-mk7-golf-r-3-downpipe/

- Forge Motorsports Cold Air Intake: https://www.forgemotorsport.com/Carb...uct--1378.html

- Integrated Engineering Front Mount Intercooler: https://www.performancebyie.com/mk7fds

- 034 Motorsports Dogbone Mount Insert: https://store.034motorsport.com/bill...ttrs-6903.html

- iABED Billet Rear Main Seal: https://xlr8performance.com/i-37265-...earch%3DSearch

- Diesel Geek Short Shift Kit: https://www.dieselgeek.com/collectio...ift-kit-for-vw

- OBD eleven (pro pack): https://www.ecstuning.com/b-obdeleve...YaAod7EALw_wcB

- SuperPro 24mm rear sway bar: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-superpro...c0052rz24~spr/

- 034 Camber Mount Strut Mounts (uninstalled): https://store.034motorsport.com/dyna...-ttrs-mqb.html

- All OEM parts included (clutch, intercooler, etc.)

- Have both keys, manuals and window sticker.

- Fully loaded - includes DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control), active lane assist and cruise control, Fender Audio, Apple CarPlay, etc.

Asking $34k.

I just bought a new one of these two weeks ago. I absolutely love driving it. After first pill change, I'm going to be doing most of those mods. Even stock, the car is a kick in the pants. Glws

Yup, those are very tasteful mods. I must say now that I have to a commute occasionally , I'm finding a new appreciation for my second Golf R. A lot of value in a cheap car.

lovely car... low key, subtle, all weather high quality high speed high confidence high capability machine

someone once said, no one NEEDS a sportier fancier car than a hot golf (gti), anything above that is just self indulgence... still having a mk 5 gti, i would have to agree

Beautiful car... I'm local and am tempted to check it out. But I'm a 1 car driver so that means I'd have to part with my 911 GTS first (for sale in the forum anyways). Free bump for you.

Almost there....add a Haldex controller and then it's over the top. Nice build!

the best mod is the clutch
as this is the only weak point of the car , otherwise great car for the money
I had a 2016 , and recently switched to a 2018

Thanks for all the interest and comments. Car is great to drive and flies under the radar. Kind of has a dual personality depending on how you’re feeling that day. With the downpipe and Stg 2 tune, it was like Jekyll and Hyde.

hate to hijack this FS ad, but what is a good replacement clutch? I know mine won't be long for this world

Great car. Just picked one up a few months back and it continues to impress. Looks like a lot of mods for the money on this example. GLWS.
