I’m selling my 1990 964 C2. It’s been parked since the 2011 Club Race at Road America, so it’s time to move it on to some other p-car enthusiast to enjoy. Overall, it’s a fun car with some very nice upgrades and solid track capability. The paint is nearly flawless and comes with a low-mileage motor and transmission.
Motor mileage: 31K (replacement)
Basic equipment: Manual transmission, LSD, PS and ABS; No a/c, heat, driver airbag or audio
Estimated weight: 3,190 lbs w/ 180-lb driver, 40 lbs of ballast, spare tire and ¼ tank of fuel
I purchased the car in 2006, ran it in 3-4 track events per year over five years and parked it for the last two. It came to me as a street car which I converted to PCA Prepared G Class spec. I’ve provided a full list of modifications below but here are some highlights. Again, current mileage is 131K:
@ 123K: Transmission rebuilt. Installed Porsche Motorsports 8:32 ring & pinion set, steel syncros and lightweight flywheel
@ 124K: Installed JIC CROSS suspension
@ 127K: Replaced MOTOR with a used, low-mileage ‘90 964 motor; Valves adjusted; Installed new oil cooler and hoses
@ 128K: Tested compression and leakdown: “All cylinders at 170 psi and 2-4% leakage” – Perfect Power, Buffalo Grove, IL,7/6/09
@ 130K: Corner balance and alignment; Replaced suspension bushings with ERP monoballs and spring plate; Installed new brake rotors, fuel pump and starter motor
In short, this car has evolved into a well-sorted and very capable performer. At the 2011 Road America Club Race, it posted a very respectable 2:36:7 and ran flawlessly during a weekend comprised of 3 sprint races, an enduro and multiple practice and qualifying sessions. It handles great, shifts smoothly and stops quickly. While it hasn’t been dyno’d, I’d estimate HP numbers typical of a healthy, stock 3.6.
As the title suggest, this car is also streetable and titled. For those interested in high-performance driving events but not trailering or limiting their car to track time, the adjustable shocks, muffled exhaust and 3-point belts allow you to enjoy the car without a helmet or earplugs (see video). Also, the graphics are vinyl and easily removed if you want to remain relatively stealth.
Issue
As with all pre-91 motors, mine does not have cylinder head gaskets. It “weeps” a little when hot and a typical track day leaves the deck lid stained with oil spray and consumes maybe a half quart of oil (out of 12). A quick wipe will get it clean and the residue underneath might result in a few wet spots. But for what it’s worth, after two years of sitting, the system retained the same amount of oil as when it left the track, so the leak is not constant.
Here’s a link which breaks the issue down further and outlines steps/cost to remedy the issue: http://www.instant-g.com/Products/36...HeadLeaks.html
Pricing and Extras
Given the head gasket issue, I’m asking $30,000 obo. In addition to the car, you’ll also receive a second set of wheels, ChaseCam, Cool Suit system, AiM basic lap timer and complete radio system (less the helmet mic, earbuds and plug). Aside from the original jack and tow bolt, no other removed parts remain available.
Pickup only. Cashier checks, wire transfer or other form of verifiable payment required prior to car and title transfer. Please feel free to email me with questions and your phone number if interested in buying. Thanks! email: jfmartinez7@comcast.net

Questions/Answers
A/C and Heat. These can be restored. I've removed only the components located in the engine compartment. The dash unit, harness plugs, a/c condenser, dryer and all other hoses and ducting are still in the car. The a/c requires a compressor with attached hoses, refrigerant and a stock motor console (current eBay example). Heat requires a complete blower with sensor and ducting from the heat exchangers. While not intended as an exhaustive list, I believe those parts represent the main add-ons if you want to go down this path.
Wrecks and Collision. This car has never been totaled, salvaged or in any head on collision. Damage has been limited to relatively minor side and bumper impacts and always repaired to a very high standard. More importantly, the car's handling does not suffer any ill effects from prior impacts, i.e. alignment specs are easily achieved.
Logbook. Yes, this car comes with a PCA Vehicle Logbook.

Ah ... motor pic!
Here's what it looks like from underneath. Photo taken 10/4/13. This is after a couple hundred miles of spirited driving and without benefit of a wipe down. Hi res version can be viewed here (just keep clicking on magnifying glass at bottom right).

Guys Joe is a fantastic guy and has taken great care of this car. I have seen it first hand and also driven against it. With hours that low on the motor and all the mods, it is an absolute steal at this price! Sad to see it go Joe! Hoping it stays local!

Another vote for Joe. Great guy to deal with, and car has been well cared for by a top local mechanic. Sad to see it go, but someone will get a great car for a great price!

Thanks, guys, for the props.
Sorry to leave you hanging, Mo, but I'll do what I can to see that this car ends up in the hands of another track regular.

Nah.. Taking it to Eurosport this week for regular maintenance. It might be a few years, but I'll be back. Can't see selling it. I'll jump back in next year if you take care of my kids and their crazy schedule....
