Question
If it has the club sport spoilers it would suggest that it was a club sport model. But, it doesn't have the roll bar, so it was evidently built as a regular RS. My question would be ....where are the original spoilers? I don't think there was an option code for just the spoilers. If so what is it? Should be listed under the bonnet if it was installed at the factory. That's my first curiosity. Second, in order for any 993 to be DOT legal it has to have driver and passenger airbags,as well as bumperettes, US turnsignals and glass, safety decals in english, and a substitute US VIN plate to meet the FMVSS standards in 1996. I don't see any of those. I'm nitpicking, but this a forum of enthusiasts, and all the details of a $300000 car should be thoroughly vetted. Lovely anyway. Very nice. Does it have any German accident history? That should be research-able too.

Chip_962: all of the items you point out above are waived under the Show & Display import. Also, Clubsport spoilers were indeed a factory option on the RS - I know these cars very well and this is a very correct example.

Roger that; then the original post should state that it is dot/EPA exempt under "show or display " regs with federal limitations on mileage and use. I'd like to see the option code for the spoiler under the bonnet if I were in the market for one like this. Great car anyway! Worth every penny with the correct disclosures.

For anyone looking for additional info: The "show/display" waiver allows the owner to drive a total of up to 2,500 miles per year. Given this waiver, the DOT runs no interference when importing these very specific cars and, thus, no changes to the car are necessary (lights, gauges, bumper height, air bags, etc. etc. etc.). Only the EPA is concerned with the car and it must then meet EPA standards for whatever model year it is...in this case...1996. Both of my 3.8 Carrera RS's have now passed and are, as such, DOT/EPA legal. Hope that helps. Bob

There's a bit more to it.
From NHTSA:
ON-ROAD USE
A vehicle eligible for Show or Display may receive NHTSA approval to be driven on the highway. The odometer must not register more than 2,500 miles in a 12- month period. NHTSA approval of limited on-road use is to allow the vehicle to be driven to and from nearby displays of similar automobiles. Another reason permission is granted is to maintain the vehicle’s engine, braking, lighting, and other dynamic systems in good working order. The vehicle is still required to meet EPA requirements. If the original engine in the vehicle will be replaced with a non-original engine to meet EPA requirements, it must be identified in your application since it may impact on the technological or historical significance of the vehicle.

Very nice RS! Your web site indicates it's a 1995, however, here you say 1996, which is it? http://www.atspeedmotors.com/95-993-RS
