Yoko vs. Sumi tread width
This may be old news to some here, but it was new and interesting to me:
I just bought a new set of Yoko AD08's for my 993. They are the same size as the current Sumitomo's (225/40-18 front; 285/30-18 rear) yet when I measure the tread width, the Yoko's are 1 inch wider both front and rear.
I know there are differences between brands, but I wouldn't have guessed a 1 inch difference.
Guess I'm pleased with that.

AD08 are excellent tires. Scrub off the mold release and let er rip.

Tried the new AD08's at a Mid-Ohio track day yesterday. I am pretty impressed with their performance. First two sessions were wet and the track very slippery (I think some of the SCCA racers over the weekend put down quite a bit of oil) so they didn't build up much heat and therefore not much grip. However, as the track dried out and I got a couple of heat cycles in them, they had tons of grip in the dry. Good track tires!
It will be fun wearing these out.
Cheers.
